Hall of Fame Inductee - Erwin D. Phillips

Erwin D. Phillips, a 1946 graduate of Sand Springs High School, has dedicated his life to public service, law, and community development. His extensive contributions to the city of Sand Springs and various organizations highlight his commitment and leadership.

Erwin D. Phillips graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1946 and went on to earn a B.S. in History and Political Science from Tulsa University in 1951. He later received a J.D. from Tulsa University School of Law in 1961. Erwin served as the Sand Springs City Attorney for 27 years, during which he proposed and created the Fenceline Concept in 1966 to protect the city from encroachment by other municipalities.

With a private law practice in Sand Springs spanning 37 years, Erwin has also been an active member of the Sand Springs Rotary Club since 1961, serving as President in 1971-72. He initiated the Rotary Bean Lunch, benefiting the Sand Springs Welfare Association, and continues to oversee it annually.

Erwin has served on the board of Sand Springs Community Services, Inc. since 1970, acting as President from 1982 to 1996. Under his leadership, the organization completed the construction of the Lucile Page Manor, a $3.6 million housing development for low-income senior citizens, and acquired a dedicated building for daily operations.

As a board member and past President and Treasurer of the Salvation Army, Charles Page Community Corps, Erwin received the B.F. Breeding award in 1996. He also serves on the Tulsa City Command board and property committee. His involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, Indian Nations Council includes roles as Past District Chairman, District Sustaining Membership Enrollment Chairman, and board member. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award in 1978, the highest honor for an adult “scouter.”

Erwin is a member and past President of the Sand Springs Sertoma Club, receiving the Gem Award in 1995 and the Centurion Award in 1998. His extensive volunteer work includes numerous other organizations, showcasing his dedication to community service and improvement.
