A towering figure in both basketball and education, Ward Sherrill’s influence stretches from the court to the classroom and the city council. As a standout athlete and dedicated educator, Ward’s legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Sand Springs and beyond.
Ward Sherrill, a proud 1963 graduate of Charles Page High School, distinguished himself early on as senior class president, a member of the student council, and a recipient of the Craftsman Award. Under Coach Cecil Hankins, Ward shone on the basketball court, earning accolades such as Ark Valley Basketball Player of the Year and Tulsa Daily World Basketball Player of the Year. His impressive performance, including an average of 23.4 points per game, earned him a spot on the North All-State Basketball Team.
Ward continued his basketball career at Oklahoma State University under the legendary Henry Iba, majoring in Biology and completing his Secondary School Administration degree in 1969. His career in education began at Shawnee Mission NW High School, where he taught and coached for six years. Returning to Oklahoma in 1982, Ward took on roles at Central Junior High and as Athletic Director for Sand Springs Schools before serving as principal at Charles Page High School for eight years. From 2002 to 2008, he was vice-principal and principal at the L.E. Radar Center.
Beyond his educational contributions, Ward has served on the Sand Springs City Council since 2006, completing two terms. He and his wife, Linda, enjoy their time in Sand Springs, supporting their beloved OSU teams and exploring the U.S. through travel.
