M. David Riggs, a 1955 graduate of Sand Springs High School, has had a distinguished career in law, politics, and community service. His extensive education and professional achievements have made him a notable figure in Oklahoma.
David Riggs graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1955, where he was President of the Student Body and lettered in three sports. He continued his education at Phillips University, earning a B.A. in Philosophy, English, and Political Science. During his time at Phillips, he received several accolades, including the Outstanding Creative Writer Award and the Outstanding Athlete Award, and served as President of the Student Body.
In 1962, David graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Master’s Degree in Philosophy. He furthered his studies with Special Studies in Crime & Poverty from the University of Minnesota in 1965 and earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1968. In 1969, he graduated from the University of Nevada’s National College of Juvenile Justice.
David’s career in public service began with his election to the Oklahoma House of Representatives and the Oklahoma Senate. In 1972, he became a founding partner of Riggs, Abney, Neal, Turpen, Orbison & Lewis Law Firm, which has grown to include offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Muskogee, and Denver, employing over 90 lawyers and 200 employees.
