John Beck’s journey from a Sand Springs High School graduate to an internationally recognized nuclear engineering expert showcases his dedication and expertise. John Beck graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1956 and attended the University of Oklahoma for two years before serving in the U.S. Army with the peacekeeping force in Korea. He earned his B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Tulsa and an M.S. from Northeastern University in Boston in 1970.
Immediately after graduating from T.U., John was hired by Westinghouse as an experimental physicist, where he designed submarine reactors at their Pittsburgh plant. In 1967, he joined Yankee Atomic Electric Co., a public utility based in Boston, and remained there for 11 years. His roles spanned technical and management positions, culminating in his appointment as Director of Engineering for the Nuclear Service Division.
During this period, John became nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in nuclear engineering. He served on a committee for the Edison Electric Institute evaluating the effectiveness of nuclear facilities across the U.S., met with Senate committees on safety issues, and in 1975, he was a U.S. delegate at the First International Nuclear Conference in Paris.
In 1992, John founded Little Harbor Consultants in Cohasset, Massachusetts. His firm has focused on consulting assistance in establishing and maintaining an open work environment, as well as productivity and financial performance strategies for its clients.
