Hall of Fame Inductee - Jerry A. Hanner

The name Jerry Hanner resonates with community pride and dedication in Sand Springs. A lifelong Sandite, Jerry’s legacy is defined by his unwavering commitment to his hometown, from his early days as a student-athlete to his extensive civic contributions and deep appreciation for local history.

Jerry A. Hanner graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1958. Known for his leadership, academic excellence, and athletic prowess during his high school years, Jerry’s commitment to his community only grew stronger throughout his life.

He spent 36 years at Warren Petroleum, where he continued to demonstrate his civic pride by serving as a city councilor and Municipal Authority Trustee, and as mayor from 1983 to 1987. In his most recent role, Jerry has been the Chairman of the Sand Springs Cultural & Historical Museum Trust Authority, a position he has held since 1998. His dedication to preserving the history of Sand Springs led him to oversee the renovation of the Page Memorial Library, which now houses the Sand Springs Museum.

In 2004, Jerry was honored as Sand Springs’ “Hometown Hero” and received the John M. Hess Award for Outstanding Citizenship. Beyond his civic contributions, Jerry is a Master Gardener, an active member of First Presbyterian Church, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His life is a testament to his enduring commitment to his community and family.
