Jerrold Lawless graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1952, where he showcased his musical talent by playing in both the marching band and orchestra, mastering several instruments. He began his college education at the University of Tulsa and completed a degree in Music Education at the University of Michigan.
Following his graduation, Mr. Lawless taught for 12 years in the Ann Arbor, Michigan School System before returning to Tulsa to perform with the Tulsa Philharmonic. In 1965, he founded The Young Tulsans, a youth band program that provided opportunities for high school and college musicians in the area.
Jerrold joined Tulsa Junior College (now TCC) as its first music instructor, where he taught for the next 30 years. Upon retiring in 2000, he was one of only 20 original staff and faculty members who had been with TJC/TCC since its establishment in 1970.
Lawless resides in Tulsa with his wife, Kathryn, and remains a respected figure in the musical community for his contributions to education and local music programs.
