Dr. George Everett

Hall of Fame Inductee - Dr. George Everett

Dr. George Everett’s career in journalism and academia reflects a deep commitment to the craft and a lasting impact on his community. From his early work in publishing to his influential roles in education and his dedication to preserving Sand Springs’ history, his legacy continues to inspire.

Dr. George Everett graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1947. His career began in his father’s publishing business, The Hunter’s Horn, but his passion for journalism led him to teaching positions far from Oklahoma, including Tennessee and Utah.

He served as Professor of Journalism at the University of Tennessee, where he also held the role of Assistant Dean for the College of Communications. Later, he was an Assistant Professor of Journalism at the University of Utah.

In the 1950s and 1960s, George was actively involved in various civic and church responsibilities in Sand Springs. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 1996 and, with his wife Sandy, settled on a mountainside overlooking Salt Lake City.

A special contribution to his hometown is his book “Sandite Sketches,” which he has donated all rights to the Sand Springs Museum. Dr. Everett encourages Sandite alumni to support the museum’s mission to record, present, and preserve the rich history of Sand Springs for future generations.
