A stalwart of Sand Springs High School and a dedicated community figure, Clyde Alva Boyd Jr.’s legacy extends beyond his athletic prowess to a lifetime of service and commitment. From his early days on the court and field to his influential role in the medical field, Clyde’s story is one of remarkable dedication and family values.

Clyde Alva Boyd Jr., born on January 13, 1925, to Clyde and Veva Boyd, moved to Sand Springs just before starting the second grade. From a young age, Clyde was captivated by sports, excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. At Sand Springs High School, he earned three letters in both basketball and football, renowned for his defensive skills and scoring ability. As an All-State basketball player, Clyde was known for his signature one-handed shots from a pivot position. Despite his lighter build, he was a formidable center and was honored as Co-captain of the 1942 All-State Sandite Football team. Clyde was also awarded the Balfour Plaque of Loyalty and Scholarship, a testament to his dedication and academic achievements.

After high school, Clyde served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army before pursuing a BS in Pre-Dental Science from Oklahoma A&M. He completed his dental training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1952. Upon returning to Sand Springs, Clyde married Harriett Sue Kimler, and together they raised six sons, instilling in them the values of hard work and commitment to family and community.

Clyde’s reputation for an unwavering work ethic was evident in his willingness to see patients at any time, addressing their needs with compassion and dedication. He and Sue were active supporters of their sons’ sports endeavors, attending their games and matches throughout their careers. Clyde’s tireless contributions to his community and his legacy of dedication have made a lasting impact, carried forward by his family.
